Production Manager


Monday – Friday 8.00-17.00


£28,000 DOE


Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Production Manager. You will be required to plan, co-ordinate and implement the company’s projects and organising the production of the clients’ products and services.

The client specialises in designing and manufacturing of manual/patient handling equipment and ppe through to high cost luxury items


  • Work with Directors to look for and develop programmes and projects that lead to constant systems/organisational improvement and personnel development.
  • Planning and organising production schedules using the company’s manufacturing programme – CIM50 (training will be given where necessary).
  • Assessing project and resource requirements and communicate this to the team.
  • Estimating, negotiating and agreeing budgets and timescales with clients and managers.
  • Determining quality control standards as per our ISO9001 quality manual.
  • Overseeing production processes, advise and improve where necessary.
  • Re-negotiating timescales or schedules as necessary based on priority customers and orders.
  • Selecting, ordering and purchasing materials (CIM50 assisted).
  • Ensure there is sufficient stock in place to cater for existing and forecasted customer orders.
  • Organising the repair and routine maintenance of production equipment based on Schedules of preventative maintenance.
  • Liaise with buyers, marketing and sales staff.
  • Supervising the work of production staff. Undertake observation, coaching and feedback where necessary.
  • Make sure that products are manufactured on time and are of good quality. Late orders are to be communicated to the sales office so a call to the customer can be made. This can largely be based on CIM50 outputs.
  • Work out the human and material resources required.
  • Be responsible for the selection and maintenance of equipment. Report all downtime and emphasise a minimal downtime maximum productivity state of mind.
  • Strive to reduce expenses.
  • Communicate any problems or obstacles to senior management.
  • Ensure that we have optimum staffing levels as possible at all times by having a pool of stand-by staff to cover sickness and Annual Leave.
  • Liaise with suppliers, co-managers and directors where necessary.
  • Work with co-managers to implement the company’s policies and goals.
  • Ensure Health and Safety guidelines are followed and 5S/6 Sigma protocols are implemented and followed.
  • Supervise and motivate a team of workers.
  • Review worker performance. Coach and lead the team to achieve targets with success.
  • Identify training needs.
  • Agree project objectives when required.
  • Represent the client’s or organisations interests.
  • Provide advice on the management of projects.
  • Organise the various professional people working on a project where necessary
  • Carry out risk assessments when required.
  • Make sure aims of projects are met.
  • Ensure quality standards are met at all times.
  • Use IT systems to keep track of people and progress where necessary.
  • Monitor sub-contractors to ensure guidelines are maintained.
  • Have a positive approach to Hospital Direct and its Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Demonstrate positive people skills, undertake a leadership role and lead by example.
  • Ensure you adequately perform the open and close up duties and cover where necessary – strictly following the company’s policy on 5s and 6 sigma of which you manage.
  • Help out where necessary with Staff Welfare and concisely report back to the Directors in a confidential manner.
