Job Description
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Laser Operator to join a busy sheet metal manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC laser cutting machines to produce high-quality sheet metal components in line with production schedules and customer specifications.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced CNC Laser Operator, ideally with experience using Amada laser cutting equipment, although experience with other laser cutting machinery will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC laser cutting machines to manufacture sheet metal components accurately and efficiently.
- Load and unload raw materials using appropriate lifting equipment where required.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, production orders, and work instructions.
- Select the correct cutting programmes, tooling, and machine settings for each job.
- Carry out first-off inspections and routine quality checks using measuring equipment.
- Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to optimise cutting quality and productivity.
- Complete routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and daily operator checks.
- Identify and report machine faults, tooling issues, or material defects.
- Record production data, downtime, and quality information accurately.
- Ensure work is completed to production schedules while maintaining high quality standards.
- Handle finished components carefully to prevent damage.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures and wear required PPE.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the production environment.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Previous experience operating CNC laser cutting machines within a sheet metal manufacturing environment.
- Experience using Amada laser cutting equipment is preferred, but other laser machine experience will be considered.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Good knowledge of sheet metal materials and manufacturing processes.
- Experience using measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Flexible approach to overtime and shift working when required.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience with automated material handling or tower storage systems.
- Knowledge of Amada software and nesting programmes.
- Forklift licence or overhead crane experience.
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
- Basic machine maintenance knowledge.
